I had horrible counseling too which only perpetuated the abuse
Dr Clarke how do you get them to see that they need to do the spiritual work first? My husband is going to individual counseling (non Christian) and “wants” to go to marriage counseling but I know it is a spiritual issue.
Too funny! I went to counseling with the covert narc I was with for a total of 54 years. POINTLESS! He duped them all into acting like the victim. After we divorced 5 years ago, he was clinically diagnosed as a covert narc! All the marriage counselors did was make me even more targeted for abuse because he convinced and manipulated them into thinking he was a victim. Narcs are very good manipulators. Stay away-no contact. The only answer. It’s taken me 6 years to completely scrape this awful man off. I am happy now but my health is damaged. I once had an emergency room physician tell me if I didn’t get away from him, I would die. I’m lucky. I have no contact now.

Modern therapy is nothing more than an echo chamber. Therapists do not try to get to the root of the problem. They merely affirm people with a victim mentality on their self-pitying emotions.
